Bowling Club Report 2015-2016

The new season got under way on Monday the 7th September at 8.30. Note the change of club night from Wednesday to Monday after GB, making better use of the heating as hall is warm after GB.

We have 24 paid up members, two less than last season and were able to enter two teams in the league again. The A-Team came in fourth in their section of the league and went on to win the shield cup. The B-team didn't do so well this season, nevertheless they enjoyed the competition and are looking forward to better times next season.

During the year the club members played for the John Murray Memorial Cup and the Hunter Memorial Cup. Thomas Moore won the Murray Cup and Sean Logan won the Hunter Cup.

Conwal Parish Club hosted the Annual Christmas get-together between Ramelton, Milford and Cranford and Conwal Clubs. It proved to be a very enjoyable night’s bowling. Mervyn Whyte of Conwal Club won the shield and €220 was raised for the Donegal Hospice. We finished the season with our triples tournament at the beginning of April played over 4 nights. We had 16 teams each night. On the final night the two teams going through to the final game were from Maghery, Mark Cairns, Jamie Glackin and David Bonner (last year’s winner) and from Limavady, Andrew Rankin, Mark McNichol and Brian Rankin. It was a very exciting final and the score was always extremely close. In the end it came down to the last bowl, which Andrew Rankin needed to clinch the game and win the tournament.

On our last night we wished Jonathan Jacob well as he begins his Garda training in Templemore. Jonathan has been a keen member of the club since his national school days and we will miss him very much.
